THE BIRD PARK SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

A NORTH PARK COMMUNITY EVENT

The North Park Community Association’s (NPCA) annual Summer Concert Series at Bird Park is a wonderful neighborhood event and could not happen without our dedicated Volunteers.  Everyone involved in the Concert Committee is generously donating their time … from the overall coordinators and planners to the event day organizers.  As soon as a Concert Series ends, planning for the next season’s Series begins.  It is a big job and requires community help with fundraising, marketing, music selection, and other event phases.  Committee Volunteers can be as involved as they want to be and we always welcome their efforts.

Here is a brief description of Concert Committee responsibilities and time involvement:

FUNDRAISING

Concert Series fundraising is the backbone of the event.  Targeted fundraising is concentrated from October to mid-April.  We plan sponsor levels, compete for grants, complete donor mailings, and attempt to increase public awareness in order to find potential sponsors for the upcoming season.

MUSIC SELECTION

Music Selection occurs throughout the year.  We depend on the community to make us aware of choice local bands noticed at different area venues, events, and concerts.  We also ask that they contact their favorite bands to have them send their promotional packages to the NPCA.  The Music Selection group within the Concert Committee meets in January and February to review received promotional packages for performance criteria and sound.  This process ends with the selection of potential Concert bands.

MARKETING AND ADVERISING

Marketing and Advertising efforts are more focused between February and July.  We work with Volunteer graphic artists on poster and print media ad design/copy, mail out fundraising letters, contact all local media sources to promote the Concerts, and distribute the storefront posters.

DAY OF EVENT

Facilities Volunteers are broken down into two onsite shifts on the day of the event.  The early shift monitors the equipment set-up (stage, sound equipment, etc.) the set-up of the NPCA booth, monitoring the grounds, greeting/assisting Concert attendees as needed, and assisting with community relations.  The second shift starts about half way through the Concert and monitors/removes trash bags, assists with booth tear-down, and final grounds clean-up.
